The Finnish Defence Forces is actively involved in the development of the call-ups system. This page offers you information on a pilot for call-ups info days to be held in the autumn of 2026.

What is a call-ups info day?

A part of a pilot project, call-ups info days will be held for all 17-year-old students in upper secondary education in Jyväskylä, Espoo, and Iisalmi in the autumn of 2026. The call-ups info days will offer all youth information on national defence, liability for military service, comprehensive security, and measures for supporting well-being.

The pilot project’s preparatory bodies include the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Defence Forces, and National Defence Training Association, in co-operation with the participating municipalities and education providers.

Communication with students on the events’ arrangements will be managed by municipalities and educational establishments. The call-ups info day will be organised, of the education providers, by City of Espoo (general upper secondary education) and Joint Authority of Education in the Espoo Region Omnia (vocational education and training), City of Iisalmi (general upper secondary education) and Ylä-Savo Municipal Federation of Education (vocational education and training), as well as Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia (general upper secondary education and vocational education and training).

More details about the pilot for call-ups info days

In the future, the series of call-ups will be extended to a two-phase structure consisting of call-ups info days and call-ups cum selection events. The call-ups info days common for the age group will offer all youth information on national defence, whereas the call-ups events for men liable for military service and selection events for women applying to voluntary military service are to be held later.

The pilot for call-ups info days prepares for the introduction of a national format in the future. The pilot will provide feedback and experiences on the full functioning of implementation across different regions and in educational establishments.

The pilot for call-ups info days is a part of the development of the call-ups system as defined in the Parliamentary report on conscription (2021), Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government (2023), and Report by the working group on the development of the conscription system (2024).
